    Thanks for the reply Steve. One of the important reasons I use open source is to be able to inspect the code without installing it. It also seems very difficult to honor the GPL if there is no place to return source contributions.

    I did extract the files from the exe using 7-zip without running them, so maybe that will give others some comfort. Since Excel files are opaque anyway, I don't see how anyone could ever be completely assured to code was clean.

    Perhaps the ultimate solution is to create a .net project where you have more explicit OS level security being enforced rather than relying on the Excel macro container.
