Important topics:
[SPIW Image Structures] - If you do not use these you will probably get lots of errors about structures.
[Opening SPM files in SPIW] - SPIW natively supports some SPM image file formats, it also provides tools which can be used to open almost any SPM format.
[RGB images] - RGB images are used for visualisations, not data processing.

Examples
Examples can be found in the MATLAB help window. If SPIW is installed it should be listed with the other toolboxes. In the new MATLAB GUI (From 2013a) SPIW is listed under "supplementary software".
