Backspace doesn't seem to work. A strange char is inserted instead.
This is by design. The console runs in raw mode, not allowing editing.
It is arguable that read_int, read_float, and read_string should allow at least simple editing, but this requires a pervasive change across all simulators. It is probably not disruptive however, since the current behavior is bad. I'll add another work item for it.

The code is online. Please send me any bug fixes you make, and please test that they run across Windows/MacOS/Linux.

It is an open source project. Feel free to fix it. spim maintenance is over after 25 years.
