Dr. David Rosenkranz

SpeedyQuant is a gel imaging/analysis software to compare the amount of DNA, RNA or protein in gel bands of agarose or acrylamid gels. It is very useful to make a relative estimate of the amount of e.g. DNA in different gel bands and can obviate subsequent photometric or related analysis. SpeedyQuant automatically detects gel bands and calculates the relative strength of each band compared to the most prominent band. During gel band detection and calculation of gel band intensity the background noise is taken into account. This leads to accurate and comparable results.

All you need is a gel image in .png or .jpeg format. Trim the image so that it does not display any text, frames or gel slots. Start SpeedyQuant with your gel image file (e.g. 'image.png') from the command promt or terminal using the following command:
perl sq.pl -i image.png

If you are using a standalone executable type the following command:
sq -i image.png

or if you are on Linux:

./sq -i image.png
