I've just tried installing the beta 3 release of the 1.2
version.
There are two lights on the modem: one is USB and the
other is ADSL: when windows starts, the USB is green
and the ADSL is orange (flashing). After a few seconds it
turns green (fix). When I launch modem_run under
Fedora Core 1, the USB turns green, then the ADSL
starts flashing (orange color)... and that's it! I've tried
running pppd, and it seems the modem really connects,
because after that ifconfig ppp0 returns a lot of details.
But when I try to access the network in any way (ping,
traceroute, web, ftp), it gives an error. At first I tried it
with the firewall on (ppp0 pass) and then off. It didn't
work. Since many of the files that were mentioned in the
howto already contained the right commands, but in a
different order, I left them as they were. It didn't work,
so I created some new files with just the instructions
you mentioned. This didn't work either. It seems that
there is a missing step somewhere in my procedure,
which probably causes the ADSL light to keep flashing
orange.
Unfortunately, Fedora is the only system that will
support my HD (SATA), so I can't try with another
release.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi, I have the same problem with my new gentoo 1.4, the
module seems to fail uploading the firmware (leds are green
    + orange).
I manage to run my modem on others OS currently installed in
my PC: a Mandrake 9.1 on this PC debian testing, so I wonder
    what happens.
I've tried a couple of things (changing my the firmware
version, the USB port, compare the Mnadrake and gentoo
    configs) without any success.
However, i'm not an expert at all in linux and devices. I'm
not event sure of driver versions installed on my OSes, but
I'm realy wiiling to connect my gentto, thus willing to help
you debug this problem which iseems to happen from times to
    times...
Ask me anything you require for your investigations (config
files, /proc listing, anything you need, except maybe a root
    access to my PC)

oups I had created a sf account but forgot to login before
    posting...
I'm the author of the previous comment (failing to load
    microcode under Gentoo)
    Thanks

I'm not sure what's causing your problem, it works fine
under FC1 for me; I'm the author of
http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/ - you could try that:
    - download it, untar it
    - run the "undo.sh" script to remove any existing
    configuration
    - run ./speedtouchconf.sh
And see if that helps at all.
    Documentation at http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/, but
the script is written to "just work". Certainly, it worked
for me, "out of the box" on FC1.
It still has problems with SuSE9, Linux 2.6, and the Silver
    (rev4) modem.

If you're using a 2.4 kernel, Fedora Core 1 should work just
fine - I have no idea about Gentoo, as it's not something
I've got around to trying (hey, there's only a day-job and
    personal life too!)
