Hello list, i managed to compile spectrum24t_cs.o and the driver seams to work with the LA-4121-1100-EU card correctly: Linux PCMCIA Card Services 3.1.25 kernel build: 2.4.19 #2 Thu Dec 12 13:00:26 CET 2002 options: [pci] [cardbus] [apm] Intel PCIC probe: <6>PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:04.0 PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:04.1 PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 01:01.0 PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:04.1 PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:04.0 PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 01:01.0 TI 1420 rev 00 PCI-to-CardBus at slot 00:04, mem 0x10000000 host opts [0]: [ring] [serial pci & irq] [pci irq 11] [lat 168/32] [bus 2/5] host opts [1]: [ring] [serial pci & irq] [pci irq 11] [lat 168/32] [bus 6/9] ISA irqs (scanned) = 3,7,10 PCI status changes cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: clean. Hi All, Ok, just been tearing my hair out over this one - so if you can shed = some light I would be very greatful. Recently bought an intel 2011 wireless net card and pci to pcmcia = carrier for my pc - I havnt even plugged them it yet tho. I downloaded the pcmcia and spectrum tarballs from sourcefoge and = followed the instructions to the letter however when I type 'make all' = it fails when it gets to spectrum24tSw.c reporting loads of copies of = the same error : "dereferencing pointer to incomplete type" the first = line number that it reports is 283. It seems to be complaining about the = 'struct device' but my limited programming skills end there I am afraid. I have successfully compiled the pcmcia package without the spectrum = stuff with no problem at all. I am running RH7.0 with kernel version = 2.4.4 with alcatel adsl patches on a normal desktop pc. ANy help would be great, Thanks, Sam |

I'm trying to revamp the sanity checking, but in the mean time, you can solve the problem by manually running 'cardctl eject' before physically removing the card. ======================= Lee Keyser-Allen (lk...@ju...) ======================= |

Has anyone had any problems with this module causing a kernel panic when you remove a 3com Airconnect wireless card? It seems to attempt to find an access point when i insert the card, but the kernel crashes when i remove it. I'm using the beta version of the driver that was put on the ftp site a few weeks ago along with pcmcia-cs-3.1.26 and am using the 2.4.3 linux kernel. Let me know if anyone wants more details about the panic. Thanks, Gene |

I'm relatively new to Linux. I'm trying to install my Spectrum24 PCMCIA card, and I followed the instructions until I was supposed to "rerun make install" How do I do this? Ben Dimick PS: thanks for answering a newbie's question! |

Hi, I'm back again! Last week I try to deeply test your beta4 and I found one trouble: if you send or receive a lot of traffic continuously (I tried with repeatly ftp of 3MB file) after a period of time the card stop transmitting data (yes, only transmitting). I see this looking with tcpdump and ifconfig; only incoming data are handled but not outcoming (outcoming of all kinds, so TCP connection, ARP request and so on). The card is still active at radio level, because my AP (Windows with another pcmcia card) report signal. Also, I made the card on Linux an AP and the other (on Windows) normal card, and the problem still remain (and Windows report excellent strength signal). The problem is not on Windows side, because rebooting Windows do not resolve problem. Instead, making and 'ifconfig down' and then 'ifconfig up' restore normal functionality of the card. The problem remain also with a flood ping and data of about 1kb. I tried instead with a normal 'ping -t' and it worked without loosing data for about 40 hours (then I stopped it...). I tested this on: kernel 2.2.16 pcmcia-cs 3.1.24 spectrumw24 beta4 PCI-to-Cardbus adapter with TI1225. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Fabio Terrile | Don't interrupt me while | | e-mail: ta...@mb... | I'm interrupting. | | | W. On that computer I tried kernel 2.2.18 with pcmcia-cs-3.1.23, kernel 2.4.0ac8 with the in kernel pcmcia drivers and with external pcmcia-cs-3.1.23. In all cases I get the above error message. I moved the card over to my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 5000), and within Windows 2000, the card works fine. Under Linux on the same laptop, using the RH7 kernel "2.2.16-22", I updated to pcmcia-cs-3.1.23 and got the same error message from before, and then I downgraded pcmcia-cs to 3.1.12 (the version that the Spectrum24t driver was written against). Still the same error message. The card is has firmware version: V2.20-01 dated 09/21/2000. Again, it is a Symbol, Spectrum24 HighRate 11 Mbps, LA-41X1 PC Card. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Dax |

Yup yup .. for some reason (i.e. it must have been included with some popular distro) pcmcia-cs version 3.1.19 is everywhere. I realize that more people will ask this, and so I'm going to try to start a FAQ so that I can stop answering this bug report ;) .... You can read on the sourceforge site for the pcmcia-cs package to find out what the exact issue is with it, but suffice to say it has something to do with 16 bit IO access vs. 8 bit IO access. 3.1.19 (if I remember correctly) had issues with the Spectrum24t driver. I'd suggest moving up to a newer version (or even back...). I'm using 3.1.12 with this driver and it works great (with a 3Com AirConnect card). Jared Valentine hi...@xm... Thank you very much for the help. I feel that I am almost there, however it is not working yet. Inserting the card locates the driver. On Fri, 8 Dec 2000, R. Cordova wrote: > I was pointed by Intel support to the Symbol Spectrum24 Linux driver, to > try and get my card to work under Linux. The first issue is that in order to get the Intel card to work, you must first download the 11 mbit driver. This driver works with the Symbol, 3com and Intel 11mbit cards. I believe (you may have to test this for me) that the Intel card works out of the box. If this isn't correct, you have to create an entry for it in the /etc/pcmcia/config (much like you attempted to do already.) The major differences are that the 'version line should match the message that you got in the syslog, so it would look something like this: card "Intel 11 mbit card" version "Intel", "PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card", "1.00" bind "Spectrum24t" NOTE: the card line is just a label. It is for your reference only and as such can be anything that makes since to you. The version number is important, becuase this is what the package uses to do the card to driver mapping. The manfid line is optional (put it in if you know the information and feel the need to differentiate.) The bind line should match the name that you use for the driver (this bind line matches the name that the 11mbit DS package adds to the /etc/pcmcia/config file.) I hope this helps. I was pointed by Intel support to the Symbol Spectrum24 Linux driver, to try and get my card to work under Linux. They have not yet released their reference driver. With that said, I have compiled the spectrum24_cs.o file, and was trying to setup the file /etc/pcmcia/intel.conf as follows: device "spectrum24_cs" class "network" module "spectrum24_cs" card "Intel PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card" version "Intel", "*", "2011" manfid 0x0089, 0x0001 bind "spectrum24_cs" I assumed that I did not have to add these lines to /etc/pcmcia/config, because of the entries: # Include configuration files for add-on drivers source ./*.conf However I don't think I have the syntax right because I get the following error in syslog: Dec 8 21:00:09 laptop cardmgr[4457]: initializing socket 1 Dec 8 21:00:09 laptop cardmgr[4457]: unsupported card in socket 1 Dec 8 21:00:09 laptop cardmgr[4457]: product info: "Intel", "PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card", "1.00" I know that I may be dreaming to think that I can get this to work, but Intel said "For your immediate need there is a GPL driver at Sourceforge* that should work for this NIC will little to no modification." I appologize if this is the wrong list to post to, but it was the only address listed in the README file for the spectrum driver. Please responde to my email address, because I am not subscribed to this mailing list. Thanks in advance, Rois Cordova |
