Sparse1.4 is a modest update of Sparse1.3, which was a very stable software base. As such, Sparse1.4 is expected to also be quite stable and robust.

The transition to version 1.4 was made during the process of taking the code to an open source development model. During this transition, several bugs were fixed, the API was modernized somewhat to follow current software partices, and the documentation was improved.
