Man, a lot has happened. I moved about a month ago. I'm in a different state, I'm unemployed, blah blah blah. Anyway, decided to put a little time into SPAMtasm.
I've got a partially working prototype in the CVS tree under the "Prototype Code" branch. There is PSockLib which is a socket library I've written for use in SPAMtasm and later for use in other projects. I don't have all the bugs out of it and I've got some TCP options I'll probably remove, but the TCP sockets seem to be working fine.... read more
I was all set to work on this thing today and tomorrow, only to wake up this morning to find that my Linux box (which is my gateway to the internet) had a catastrophic hard drive failure. Replaced the hard drive and finally managed to get the IP forwarding to work at 9:00pm tonight. The firewall is not up, and that's my first priority as I'm not really trusting my entire network to the internet. I'm an iptables moron, so it may be noon tomorrow before I get it up and running properly.
Okay, a few things to let people know what's going on. The code has already been started for a prototype and I'll be doing some testing to see how well it attracts spammers and gather some statistics to gauge the effectiveness of the idea.
That said, this is my first sourceforge project. I need some help coding the linux version and probably could use some advice on improvements in the design of the SMTP server code, as I don't have a lot of experience writing socket servers.... read more
