At the moment the package has a home on PyPi http://pypi.python.org/pypi/SpacePy/ but no actual downloads.

If you were to run python setup.py sdist upload the resulting package would not work see http://pypi.python.org/pypi/space/ because of the cmdclass hooks.

it would be great if one could run pip install spacepy and have the package installed.

    Please, it's about time :)

The combination of not being on PyPI and using sourceforge is quite bad. Usually, I would put a link to the tarball in my setup.py (see https://stackoverflow.com/a/3481388/60982) but sourceforge doesn't provide useful static download links. This leaves me with no other option than putting additional instructions in some README file.

If you need any help on that, please ask, but this should be resolved as soon as possible.

9f2121176487717e57be1522b970a67ccafa11a7 has the final fixes (including to the release procedure) so this will be in the next release. Thomas, could you please remove your entry on pypi so that we don't have confusion?
