Would it be possible to add tooltips to some of the UI elements?
I find well designed tooltips a great way to learn about a new application/game - let's face it, how many people get around to reading the manual...
Just a thought
MOO2 had - in my view - one of the best in-game documentation mechanisms, and I've been planing to reproduce it for a long time. It used the right mouse click on almost any game object or UI element to display an explaination / help text.
The best UI is fully intuitive for the user, but if the game can explain the conepts and game mechanics itself, then that just makes it even more useful.
Tooltips are possible, but I still think a mechanism similar to that of MOO2 is more helpful. I'm not sure which one to consider the most user friendly, though. But I'd welcome it if some other peoeple here on the site might want to post their opinion on this matter.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
As long as you don't think you'll need right-click events for other purposes in the UI, I guess your MOO2-esque idea should be good
Either way, the 2 key things we need from the help text are either
a) whether the feature is inactive in the current build
OR
b) some note about how the feature works or is intended to work
