Hi, Phillip. Before you invest too much time in SourceJammer, I'd suggest that you try stress testing it as it is. It sounds like you are interested in using it for a lot of large files. I assume this because images tend to be pretty large. Anyway, make sure that SJ performs fast enough to meet your needs. I think it's fast enough. But I just want to make sure that _you_ do. Now for your questions. I have not considered the meta data issue at all. It never occured to me because this is a feature I've never used. I'm still not quite sure I understand what this would entail. I'd need more specific details. Currently, you can attache a text description/comment to every version in SJ. That's all. And searching as not yet been added. I hope to add that later this year. Developing an alternative client is certainly possible, but it would be a lot of trouble. I'm not sure I see the advantage, but that would be up to you. I'd be happy to assist as much as I could. But I think an easier solution would be to improve the installation of the Java client. There's a great tool called Install Anywhere--kind of like Install Shield for Java, in case anyone's unfamiliar with it. Anyway, with Install Anywhere, you can easily create simple graphical installation packages for Linux, Mac, and Windows. IA can even figure out if you need to install Java and install that for you if necessary. The only catch is that IA costs about $1000. That's why I'm not using it. Anyway, if you were considering developing an alternative client, buying IA and developing simple installation packages might be a good solution. Thanks. --Rob __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! http://platinum.yahoo.com |
