Aha!

You are that far along. It's just that the screen
layout is a little out of whack. The entire top half
of the screen is invisible. Well, not actually
invisible, but just sized incorrectly.

Put your mouse over the top of the big text area you
see, just between the text area and the menu bar. Your
mouse should indicate that you can do some resizing.
Resize the text area down. That is, make it smaller.
The top portion of the gui should emerge.

Take a look at the screen shots on
www.sourcejammer.org to get an idea of what the screen
should look like.

Hopefully I'm being clear. It is hard to tell when
describing this kind of visual stuff. Let me know . .

PS: This issue is kind-of addressed in client FAQ 7,
but it's inaccurate because it says the problem does
not occur in 1.1 and refers to a "blank screen". I'll
try to update this.
