Hi list, I tried posting to the forum, but apparently it is read only? I was an avid sooperlooper user back in the day (2009 and earlier) on linux via jack… Nowadays I run my live-setup within an Element (by kushview) session on MacOS. I was recently in need of a good looper, and of course sooperlooper came to mind again :) Within Element I get a very strange behavior when loading the AU plugin, the GUI is constantly opening and closing and the plugin therefore unusable. It works fine in Ableton Live but also fails in Logic with the following error: |

Hello, I'm Aloma, violinist from Barcelona who I'm playing since a long time with sooperlooper with the midi footstep from keith mcmillen softstep. Since some days, without any change in the settings, when I'm oberdubing from the thirtd time the soubd of tre track disappear. The longer if the track continues but with no sound...I don't know what is happening. What can I do? Dear all, First of all, thank you for this great piece of software. I am running SooperLooper 1.7.8 from the Debian Bookworm repos on arm64, and using SL's OSC interface to create keyboard shortcuts to control the engine. This is working like a charm, except in this particular case. The aim is to turn on and off Sync for a specific loop. From what I see in the docs[1] there is a parameter, I should be able to `oscsend /sl/2/set s sync f 0` but this has no effect. I am hoping that you can tell me what I am doing wrong, as I need it to happen via OSC, MIDI doesn't work for my use-case. Best Regards, James [1]: https://sonosaurus.com/sooperlooper/doc_osc.html |

Hello James, Yes, you must create a parallel connection for your live signal. Dear All, First of all, thank you for such an awesome and powerful piece of software. My reason for writing you is to gain some clarity on its behavior. I have sounds from different sources going through the SooperLooper via JACK. The meters in the looper react to the sound, but it is only output when the looper plays it back. Could you please tell me if this is expected behavior, and I need to create a parallel connection bypassing SL in order to have live feedback on what is being played, or if I have a misconfiguration somewhere? If you want passthrough you should just turn up the 'main in mon' slider at top (assuming you are routing things in the main inputs). If you are using the discrete inputs for each loop, turn up the 'in mon' sliders there. That should be it! Hi, I'm trying to use Hydrogen as an accurate loop synchronizer for SooperLooper (let's say a metronom). - SooperLooper is sync to Jack, sync checkbox is active - Hydrogen is Jack master - When I modify tempo on Hydrogen, I see the modification on SooperLooper - I run Record on SL, it waits for sync - I "play" on Hydrogen, and I see "TAP" blinking on SL, but the record is not starting Any idea ? Thank you very much, gUI -- Pour la santé de votre ordinateur, préférez les logiciels libres. |

New version up! I didn't mention the last few updates, but I'll put the release notes here: v1.7.8 release -- 11 June 2021 Discrete loop outputs prefader option is available per-loop now, instead of in the Prefs. Fixed extra input bus routing issue in AU plugin, now the extra input buses actually work. v1.7.7 release -- 18 May 2021 Discrete loop outputs now default to being pre-fader, so the volume controls will not affect their output. Loop volume always affects common output. Mac version using JACK now works with the latest JACK release from jackaudio.org. v1.7.6 release -- 28 Sep 2020 Fixed issue introduced in 1.7.4 that prevented the standalone from restoring any default settings. Some build fixes for mac. (Just a note for those tracking the git version tags, I changed the format to vX.X.X from the older vX_X_X, in case you had scripts relying on that). Jesse |

I'd like to finally package this for Arch Linux if I find the time in the coming days. One thing I noticed though: Could you please push the tags to the git repository that relate to the latest versions? The upstream repository [1] has only one tag so far and for transparency and reproducibility it would be great to be able to compare and also build from a tag. Hello world! Figured it was time to make an official new release with some of the fixes from GIT over the past few years. I'm not in a position to test the source tarball on many platforms, so please feel free to do so and let me know how it goes! The Mac release of 1.7.4 is now 64bit only and should work from macOS 10.9 through 10.15 (Catalina). Please test that as well, and let me know if you run into any issues. http://essej.net/sooperlooper/download.html There aren't really any new features, but this version might get around some initial network connection issues between the GUI and the backend... Thanks! Jesse |

Hi all - Running cadence instead of qjacktl, cadence version is: compiled from current source into a hybrid gentoo/from scratch library configured to use jack2-dbus / alsa / pulseaudio bridge .. audio works in my browser (depending on whether or not its flash or html5,) but I am having a hard time getting .. well, any software that opens a jackd client .. connected to the jack-dbus interface .. Before I start turning over more boulders than I need to.. Is sooperlooper currently expected to work with jackdbus at all? Thanks all! |

I have some issues running `autoreconf -vfi` on the project (autogen.sh
should really be obsoleted!):
```
autoreconf: Entering directory `.'
autoreconf: configure.ac: not using Gettext
autoreconf: running: aclocal --force
autoreconf: configure.ac: not using Libtool
autoreconf: running: /usr/bin/autoconf --force
configure.ac:35: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_OPT_FLAGS
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.ac:199: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_BUILD_ENVIRONMENT
autoreconf: /usr/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1
```
Otherwise there are lots of warnings, when building:
```
./autogen.sh
export CPPFLAGS='-std=c++11'
./configure --prefix=/usr \
--with-wxconfig-path=/usr/bin/wx-config
make
(sudo) make DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" install
```
build log:
https://privatebin.net/?d8e923c8eb407960#XQ4yWOS3UAYRgaF7eq4wfU9BEddbQ7VZsV+8Mr2M1Ic=
There are plenty of warnings because of pixmaps conversion stuff (e.g.):
```
pixmaps/tap_tempo_selected.xpm:30:1: warning: ISO C++ forbids converting
a string constant to ‘char*’ [-Wwrite-strings]
```
Also, I think that `-std=c++11` should be made default!
Hope this helps as a pointer already.
Best,
David
P.S.: I can do a pull request for XDG desktop file and a proper SVG (for
icons), if you want to!

Hi, I would love to see a new release of sooperlooper (it has been four years!). As I'm in the fortunate situation of being able to include the software as a package in the Arch Linux distribution, I would like to point out, that there are quite a few outstanding issues with compiling sooperlooper right now, which prevent me from doing exactly that. When looking at the current (user maintained) build script [1] for the software, we see at least two major show stoppers, for which there are pull requests open since many months [2]! There is even a fix for using a higher version of the wxWidgets API! @Jesse Chappell: Why are these fixes not merged? The current state of the source code renders sooperlooper unusable and future incompatible! Please merge the pull requests and release a new version! Hey,
I ran Coverity on SL. Here are the results. You can get more details by
signing up to Coverity (they don't seem to have an export option with line
numbers).
Might try and fix some of these.

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to modify the source code to include a sample start and sample end point. This would assist with samples that have a start or end that needs to be 'cut' out. (like Kluppe (Linux), Samplr, and others) Also allows more experimentation in finding segments of recording that loop well... I've downloaded the source code, and I've started to investigate inside the sooperlooper-1.7.3/src folder. Any assistance in pointing me in the correct direction is appreciated. Versed at Python, and Perl, so need to get up to speed on C and this code base. Regards, Warren |

Hi Ken, You'll want to check the "Alsa" tab in the QJackctl connect dialog, which will contain Alsa midi devices and software. The "Midi" tab is for software that uses JACK midi ports, which sooperlooper doesn't so far as I recall. -Michael On Wed, Feb 11, 2015 at 3:15 PM, Ken McNamara <vaj...@ho...> wrote: > I have tried with Qjackctl but no device shows up in the midi devices tab > (In the connect dialog window) while sooperlooper is running, is there > something more I need to do? > > > On 02/10/2015 10:56 PM, Alexandre Quessy wrote: > > Hi, > You must connect the device to the software, either using aconnect or > qjackctl. > Le 2015-02-11 00:03, "Ken McNamara" <vaj...@ho...> a écrit : > >> Greetings, I have a UbuntuStudio 14.04.1 OS and I am using a Eridol >> UA-25 that is receiving midi from a Behringer FCB1010 midi controller >> but I am not seeing any midi data coming through so it hasn't worked so >> far. >> >> Anyone have any experience with this configuration? >> >> Thanks in advance! >> >> Ken McNamara >> >> >> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >> Dive into the World of Parallel Programming. I have tried with Qjackctl but no device shows up in the midi devices tab (In the connect dialog window) while sooperlooper is running, is there something more I need to do? Hi, You must connect the device to the software, either using aconnect or qjackctl.
