	Oops.  Some of the previous fixes for timeout issues made things worse,
	and upon looking at the functions handle_ip_ack and handle_ip_rej, it is
	obvious why they do so.  I've backed out those four lines and added
	appropriate comments to remind myself never to do that again in those
	two places.  :-)
