Definition: A region derived from viral infection of germ cells that has been stably integrated into the host genome and is passed on from generation to generation.
Parent: biological_region (SO:0001411)
Justification: A term other than the current endogenous retroviral gene (SO:SO:0000100) is desired because: In many cases, the entire viral genome - not a single gene - is integrated into the mouse chromosome. Some are complete and capable of producing active virus and/or of reintegrating at a new site, whereas others are incomplete or mutant and can no longer be activated.
