Having installed Sonar I am unable to install any additional software as the Software Center keeps prompting me for an application to install the selected package. I can't find any such package manager on my installation. Can anyone help with this dilema...how to install packages without a package manager? I can use the command line but do not have a clue as to what I am doing and am visually impaired as well. A GUUI solution such as Syaptic is best for me as I can control the visual aspects enough to use the program. Many thanks for any and all help.

Sonar based on 12.04 lts and I cannot install ANY package at all.
The software center loads just fine and the full list is presented. At each entry is a link that says Get this from Ubuntu and then a windo opens promting me for the application to use to handle the link. No application is suggesteded and I am left with a file manager window but with no clue as to what to use.
Can anyone provide the command line syntax for installing Synaptic, as I believe in my limited understanding, that this should solve my problem. TIA,
Brent

That worked just fine and now synaptic is running well and I can install apps just fine.
Seems to me however that this lack of a packagae manager is a seriousflaw if the distro wishes to draw new users to the Linux world. The Sonar Software Center did not work out of the box and if I had not reached out or done some experimenting on my own I would have abandoned this distro fairly quickly.
Thanks,
Brent

Hello,
Which version of Sonar are you running? What package are you trying to

OK, did some experimenting and used:
apt-get install synaptic
That worked just fine and now synaptic is running well and I can install apps just fine.
