I am only happy that something is happening as far as Solipsis. It is the promise of something trult great. I see what pay per partication virtual reality is like, and, to be honest, I detest it. Oskar |

Hi ! The list "solipsis-tech" on berlios was more active than the old = "solipsis-user" on sourceforge, but, to be honest, the last message is 6 = months old. Indeed, this is not the first time that Solipsis experiences a "down". = But, every "down" was followed by a bigger "up", so we can be confident = ! :-)) To briefly summary : - the project has been launched by France Telecom (a small old telco = from a small country in the old europe) - this project is definitely not considered as a "prioritary" project, = so internal contributions are limited - sometimes, we can hire a developer for few months. That was the case = for Antoine who developed the last version of Solipsis with a lot of = "brio". Unfortunately, he quits but he would be undoubtly happy to = contribute if a little "community" raises, wouldn't you Antoine ? I recently try to build up some activity by submitting a "project" to a = national french grant. The draft is in french : http://gwendal.netofpeers.net/Resources/riamSolipsis.pdf In few words, this "new Solipsis" would be : - implement a new version of the p2p protocol based on an augmented = Delaunay triangulation. - conceive a free and efficient navigator for a 3D virtual world - work on Blender and ease the self-production of complex 3D objects - study social representations in such virtual worlds If the granted is accepted, several contributors would probably = participate to the development. If not, I am not sure that I will keep = on working on it ! By the way, Solipsis is one of the element of a "consortium" France = Telecom would like to initiate on "social media and horizontal = innovation". Most of the discussions are in french, but the "proposal" = of France Telecom is : http://overcrowded.anoptique.org/SocialMediaDraft Comments are welcome on both topics ! Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |
