Push the MyModules concept further to give MyVLE.  Every student gets a
(socket-enabled) VLE just the same as any other VLE and can do what they
want with it.
 
Every VLE is accessed through a portlet (or a PC or a PDA).
 
Since there will be a central identity server and a separate
communications server, the object/traffic load shouldn't prove to be a
problem.  Students would lurv it - they could go daft customizing the
thing. 
 
VLE myVLE = new VLE(String studentDetails);
 
This way, the fine-grained bods access-style can be retained within the
portlets yet the advantages of the portal are acquired.
 
There will be an xml file somewhere that sets the list of resources
available to each vle.
 
I feel a bid coming on.
 
(Now, could you create a VLE object inside another VLE object? )
