I've turned on "emergency moderation", which means that you wont get any more spam from this list :-) However, it means that your e-mail will be held until I clear it :-( I am very interested in analog EDA... not so much SPICE and such, more like circuit generators from user defined parameters, with a nice GUI. A major client of ours, Triad Semiconductor (triadsemi.com), could really use such a tool. Hi, I also notice that the project isn't really alive. My actual plan (with a friend) is to build an Analog EDA suite in python/C++/Qt. If you (or someone else) would like to participate to the idea, just let me know. Your ideas/works/though/inputs are very welcome. The thing isn't really official yet, we have no website, some code snipet here and there. I am more at the point where I am writing down the architecture. What would be your wishlist? Regarding building SoCs? I'd like to kick off the a-hole who keeps spamming this list, but I don't see any way to do it. There seems to be no way to moderate lists on sf.net, nor any way to identify the culprit and kick him off. Anybody got any ideas? I'm about to simply turn off the list. Thanks, Bill |

Hello, anyone out there???? SoC Builder seems to have had a quick "flash_in_the_pan" start and zero follow through. There is still a need for this type of tool and I would like to rekindle this project. Is anybody else interested? Lets start off with a discussion on design reuse and explore the design challenges and how teams are currently building chips with ip cores. We need to do our homework before even thinking about starting to build a tool. I see the first step as creating a design guideline manual for IP developers. This would detail all the Design_for_Synthesis, Design_for_Test and Design_for_Reuse requirements. It would serve as an interface spec to tell the developers what to create and tell the chip system builders what to expect. I would include sections on clock and reset design methods to show what you can and cannot do. We also need to work out a method for the developers to pass their IP needs to the chip builders. Developers need IP like pads, srams, clocks, resets, address space etc. We need to define a set of "system calls" for these functions rather than having to customize every piece of IP for each chip. The best book that I have found on reuse is "Reuse Methodology Manual" By Michael Keating. Anybody know of any others? Are there any industry groups working on a usable design reuse standard? john_eaton at users.sourceforge.net |

Hi. I may just be doing some wishful thinking, but I might actually now have some time to start making a bit of progress on the SoC Builder. Rudi, are you free to work a bit more on the spec? Then I can start with the basic core combiner. Also, Confluence seems to be doing well. I'd like to propose integrating it fairly early on as a tool that can generate SoC Builder compliant cores. I've already integrated it somewhat with gnetman for generating analog components. Also, for some reason, I'm itching to do a schematic generator based on the gnetman database. Sometimes it's tough to write tools that manipulate netlists without being able to visualize them. Would a schematic generator be of interest in the SoC Builder? Bill |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Last week, after spending two weeks working 16 hour days, we finished up a tape-out with a 33 hour day at work. Now there's another tape out... Actually, I seem finally be getting ahead of my work. I hope to find some time to work on this starting next week. What do you guys think of Confluence now that it's open source? Personally, I think we should use it for our module generation tasks, which I find to be a separate task to the connection engine described by Rudi's SoC Builder spec. The connection engine may allow for a bit of plug-and-play compatability between modules, but what those modules do will have to be fairly fixed. We can propagate parameters like bus widths, but real flexibility requires a language like Confluence. Also, I'm still waiting for the connection engine spec to be upgraded to include parameters that can be propagated around, like bus widths. Once that's done, if we agree that it's probably the right way to proceed, I'll get started on some code. Bill |
