[Snort-inline-users] How to improve performance of snort_inline+iptables ?

I have snort_inline+iptables in my linux transparent bridge. What can I do to improve the system performance.
1.Change the source code of snort_inline and iptables. Any links?
2.Optimize the rules. Any links?
3.Recompile the kernel?
4.?
