You should just be able to read the samples off the SndObj you want to output (with the relevant methods) and cout them (or printf() etc). Hi, I want Soundobj to process raw audio data from, say, a fifo fifle, take instructions from stdin and stream the resulting audio to stdout. As I'm new to this project I don't see yet how this can be done. I saw sndRTIO but I don't want to go over the sound drivers, just pipes. Thanks for help, Julian Gruber |

Hi James, If you're still having difficulty you could try building the python extension using the setup.py script in my sndobj branch at http://github.com/johnglover/sndobj. It uses distutils to build the extension so should solve that error on OS X. Only tested on my own machine though so let me know if you run into difficulties. git clone gi...@gi...:johnglover/sndobj.git cd sndobj/python python setup.py install John On 23 May 2011 10:27, Victor Lazzarini <Vic...@nu...> wrote: > By what you said in your e-mail, you are trying to run a wrapper > compiled for earlier versions of OSX, on 10.6, > and the error is probably a x86_64 versus i386 architecture issue. > What you need to do is to build your own > wrapper from the sources for the platform you are working on. > > Victor > > On 23 May 2011, at 05:20, Renato Fabbri wrote: > >> James, >> >> i am redirecting your email for the SndObj list. >> >> All the best, >> //rf >> >> >> ---------- Forwarded message ---------- >> From: James Watkins <meg...@gm...> >> Date: 2011/5/22 >> Subject: pysndobj problems >> To: ren...@gm... >> >> >> Hi there, >> >> I am having some trouble installing sndobj with the python wrapper. >> I'm a self-taught python programmer, so when it comes to these >> technical "behind-the-scenes" kind of things I'm pretty much a newb. >> >> I'm running OSX Snow Leopard and I've used scons to install sndobj. By what you said in your e-mail, you are trying to run a wrapper compiled for earlier versions of OSX, on 10.6, and the error is probably a x86_64 versus i386 architecture issue. What you need to do is to build your own wrapper from the sources for the platform you are working on. James, i am redirecting your email for the SndObj list. All the best, //rf ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: James Watkins <meg...@gm...> Date: 2011/5/22 Subject: pysndobj problems To: ren...@gm... Hi there, I am having some trouble installing sndobj with the python wrapper. I'm a self-taught python programmer, so when it comes to these technical "behind-the-scenes" kind of things I'm pretty much a newb. I'm running OSX Snow Leopard and I've used scons to install sndobj. I used MacPorts to install the dependencies, and those seem to be working fine. I then downloaded the python wrapper and tried to run test.py. At first it complained about libjack, so I had to create some symlinks in /usr/local/lib. I also had to run test.py using python2.3 because the later versions caused python to crash. After some tinkering, I finally got this paraphrased error: FIle "python/sndobj.py", line 7, in ? import _sndobj ImportError: Inappropriate file type for dynamic loading. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time! -James Watkins -- GNU/Linux User #479299 skype: fabbri.renato |

By the way, regardless of the IO format, internally SndObjs use floats (the IO objects do the conversion). Could you summarise here what works and what doesn't? What OS? The problem might be the RT output that is not working well in 8 bits. Try to make the output always 16 bits, as it should not depend on the input. every call to Write() will increment the output by vecsize samples (default 256). So you could take that into account. If you are using a separate thread, you can set up a process callback to increment the time count, as the callback is called every vecsize samples. Hello, I'm trying to implement a scheduller in Python to deal with PySndObj units. The idea is to have a now() function that returns the current time as a sample counter. With that function, I can call something like play_note(now() + 2 * seconds()) that will trig some PySndObj unit at 2 seconds from now. Is there any way to get the clock ticks of an obj? I've tryied to create a call function on a SndThread that calls a function that increments a counter, but I don't know if it is the best way. It seems to be computational intensive. Any suggestion? Hi Vilson, A couple of things to check: - Do you have numpy installed? - Did you build the SndObj library with both pythonmodule and numpy variables set to true? For example: sudo scons pythonmodule=yes numpy=yes install It would seem that the numpy array is not being recognised. I got the sndobj python module working now. But I had to do two things: 1. included the stdio.h on the file src/SndJackIO.cpp 2. changed the destination of python/sndobj.py to /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-package/sndobj.py instead of /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-package/python/sndobj.py I've attached a patch doing these mods. It could be applied to SndObj-2.6.6. Another intersting thing to include on the build instructions are the following steps: 1. sudo apt-get install python-dev swig1.3 2. cd SndObj-2.6.6 3. scons pythonmodule=true 4. sudo scons install All the best. -- Vilson Vieira vi...@vo... what nix distro are you using? You'll need to make sure you have all necessary library packages installed such as python-dev and swig If swig is not installed, its pretty common for it to not build the python module at all. Once installed, you need to remove the temporary scon file and folder made from the root of the project source, i dont remember the specific names but they start with .scon theres probably an option you can pass to scons to clean, i just dont use it On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 1:27 AM, Vilson Vieira <vi...@vo...> wrote: > Hello, > > I'm trying to build and install SndObj with scons.
