    cani havea parity smaller than data drive? i just got 2 8tb drives can i use a 5tb drive as parity until i get another 8gb?

    As long as the largest amount of data on one of the 8tb drives does not excede 5tb, it would work.

    Okay, so I could set it up as 2 8tb backup drives and the 5tb drive as partity for now and then I can just swap the parity drive for an 8tb when I get another, is that correct?

      Why not use use the 8tb as parity from the start? It'll eliminate a bunch of hassle later and give you more protected data now.

    So one 8 parity and then an 8 data a 5 data a 2 data etc i didn’t think about that
