CA to Establish Mainframe Center of Excellence in Prague
Euro 36 Million Investment to Create World-Class Development Facility For Next-Generation Software Solutions
PRAGUE, Czech Republic, June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE:CA) today announced that it will create its first worldwide Mainframe Center of Excellence in Prague, representing a major expansion of its operations in the Czech Republic and a significant commitment to the mainframe computing market. The new Center will focus on software development, maintenance, validation and quality assurance for the mainframe computing environment.
The staff of CzechInvest, the Investment and Business Development Agency of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade is assisting CA by providing expert advice and incentives under the Agency's Framework Program for support of technology centers and business support services
"CA is proud to announce this partnership with CzechInvest to create a state-of-the-art mainframe development and support center in the heart of Europe," said Guy Harrison, senior vice president, Development Operations at CA. "This Center of Excellence will provide mainframe users worldwide with a host of innovations, and will help strengthen the Czech Republic's position as a hub of IT activity."
CA's Mainframe Center of Excellence will be established in a 45,222 square foot (4,237 square meter) facility in Building 6 at The PARK in Chodov, Prague 4 and is scheduled to open in August 2005. The Center expects to hire and train more than 200 people including talented students, mainframe experts and experienced managers. The first phase of recruitment is already underway, with new staff expected to be in place by August 2005.
"CA's Mainframe Center of Excellence brings investment from one of the world's most successful software companies to Prague and is a sign that large multi-nationals see tangible business benefits in the Czech Republic," said Radomil Novak, CEO of CzechInvest. "The opening of this Center is a testament to the skills and resources we have available in this market, where our people and our infrastructure can provide the right basis for strategic growth and improved competitiveness in the global economy."
CA offers a wide range of mainframe software solutions that enable IT organizations to optimize utilization of data center resources, reduce total cost of ownership, maintain alignment of utilization with business value, and quickly respond to evolving enterprise computing requirements.
CA chose Prague because of its highly qualified and educated workforce, a strong program of mainframe education at Czech universities and Prague's strategic location at the geographic heart of the European Union. The company has had a direct presence in the Czech Republic since 1998 and employs 20 people at its existing sales offices in Prague and Bratislava.
Prague is home to recent graduates and experienced professionals who specialize in the mainframe environment. In fact, CA expects 65 percent of new hires at the Center to be recent graduates of the region's universities. Each staff member will be fully trained on CA's business policies and technology. Ongoing training updates from dedicated training managers will be regularly available. The Center will be managed by Patrick Pochard, a senior executive with 14 years service at CA in a variety of development and managerial roles.
Notes to editors
CA has embarked on a program to expand its $1 billion annual EMEA revenues faster than the overall market by implementing a three-pronged growth strategy. The strategy calls for deeper penetration of selected geographical markets such as the Arab countries and Central/Eastern Europe, as well as increased business with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and a significant expansion in the small- and medium-sized business (SMB) sector. In line with its EMEA growth strategy, CA aims to double its business in Central and Eastern Europe over the next two years by investing in new staff and premises, and by focusing on strategic partnerships in each local market.
