Hello SMplayer Developers and maintainers,

First, let me thank you for a wonderful media player! I have been using and recommending SMplayer in Linux Mint for years.

Although I can play DVD content, it sure would be nice to play a DVD or Blu-Ray disc using the disc's menu, but I do not see an option for this?

I am using Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 and KDE Neon user edition both are based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic 64-bit
Version: 19.1.0 (revision 9191)
Using Qt 4.8.7 (compiled with Qt 4.8.7)
Using MPlayer SVN r37540

What is interesting is that the "mplayer" command below works for me. So, why doesn't SMplayer work with my DVD menus? Can you incorporate the command below into SMplayer somehow?
mplayer -mouse-movements dvdnav:// -dvd-device /dev/sr0

mplayer -mouse-movements dvdnav:// -dvd-device /dev/sr0

Just noticed that my SMplayer is using QT 4, is there a QT5 version of SMplayer?

Best regards,
Phil D (phd21)

Support for DVD menus was removed mainly because mpv removed support for it.

There are packages built with Qt 5 here:

      Hi Ricardo Villalba,

Thank you for your prompt reply. :)

I understand that MPV removed support for DVD menu navigation which I do not know why they would do that, but since SMplayer can use either mplayer or mpv, why not let the end user choose mplayer with DVD menu navigation support? If the end-user chooses mplayer, then show an option for DVD menu support. Or, maybe an option just when playing DVD's use mplayer instead of mpv even if mpv is the chosen back end? Some DVD's have setup options that can be used before playing their content that seem to require its menu.

Is there any benefit to choosing mpv over mplayer and if so, can you briefly explain that to me?

What are the benefits and or differences of SMplayer with QT5 over QT4 versions? If I have your RVM PPA installed, should I remove that first before using the OpenSUSE repository? Will your RVM PPA also provide the QT5 version?

      Now using SMplayer:
      Version: 19.1.0 (revision 9191)
Using Qt 5.12.0 (compiled with Qt 5.9.5)
      Using MPlayer SVN r37540

Happy Easter and best regards to you and yours.

      Thank you ,
      Phil (phd21)

Even with mplayer the DVD menus didn't work very well. If both mplayer and mpv would provide correct support for DVD menus I'd be happy to add it back.

For example mpv seems to work better with online streams.

The Qt 5 version has support for global shortcuts. Other than that, I think there are no differences.

The PPA already provided a Qt 5 version but I finally removed because some users didn't like it (mainly bugs in Qt 5 and not using the native file dialog).
