Can not retrieve subtitles on a read-only filesystem

I noticed that the subtitle downloader for smplayer-0.6.9 was failing every time on my OpenBSD machine. Upon closer inspection with ktrace, it is because my NFS share with my media on is mounted read only, and the sub file can not be written to the same dir as the media file.
Please consider an option to save the subtitles in ~/.config/smplayer/subs, or something to that effect. Cheers.
