One of my WD20EARX drives show a lot of the following smartd message:
Device: /dev/sdb [SAT], is back in ACTIVE or IDLE mode, resuming checks (5
I assume this is related to offline data collection, which happens only in
idle state. If I shut down the machine, it will abort these offline tests
on a regular base.
General SMART Values:
Offline data collection status: (0x82) Offline data collection activity
was completed without error.
Auto Offline Data Collection:
Self-test execution status: ( 0) The previous self-test routine
without error or no self-test has
I configured smartd debian/default like this
ps -C smartd -o cmd
/usr/sbin/smartd --pidfile /var/run/smartd.pid -q never --interval=1800
smartd.conf is set up like this:
DEVICESCAN -d removable -n standby,q -m root -M exec
What attribute data is the green drive trying to collect in idle state? I
make it a habit of running a long test every few months, these tests pass
fine as expected, no reallocated sectors so far.
Thanks for some info.
