I'm tryIng to configure smartmontools release 5.37 under Kantotix Rc4.
Parsing of smartd.conf works fine but the testmail won't arrive. I have
several mailing agents installed by default but I generally don't use or
touch them at all (i'm still a dual booter) so there might be a chance that
they are not configured properly either... I just like to make sure
everything is fine smartmon sidewise.
So - here comes my smartd.conf:
/dev/sda -a -d sat -o on -S on -I 194 -I 9 \
-m myemailaddress@... -M test -M exec /usr/bin/mail
Now I'm parsing the file with 'smartd -q onecheck' and the output is
"Monitoring 1 ATA and 0 SCSI devices
Executing test of /usr/bin/mail to myemailaddress@... ...
Test of /usr/bin/mail to myemailaddress@...: successful
Started with '-q onecheck' option. All devices sucessfully checked once.
smartd is exiting (exit status 0)"
now i'm restarting the daemon with /etc/init.d/smartmontools restart - i
check the logfiles (/var/log/messages and syslog) but they don't list a
single entry concerning the testmail - in fact they don't list much at all
'cept the usual boot up stuff when the daemon is starting. I allready tried
using a second mail account from a different provider to make sure it's not
provider related, so there has to be a problem with sending the mail but I
can't figure it out since there are now enlightening logfile or error
outputs at all!
... if someone has a hint what I'm doing wrong I'd much appreciate that.
Like I said - maybe there really is a problem with my mailing agent
