Currently have a media center running MythTV. The drive setup is
using mdadm as raid devices with LVM on top of this.
/dev/mapper/vol00-disk1 on /var/lib/mythtv type ext4 (rw)
/dev/mapper/vol00-disk2 on /disk2 type ext4 (rw)
/dev/md0 on /boot type ext4 (rw)
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
The drive noise I refer to is not a clinking noise or something that
sounds like a drive is going bad. Running with smartd monitor -
/usr/sbin/smartd -l local3 --pidfile /var/run/smartd.pid
No problems indicated and I have the same type of setup running on an
identical box. Also has been running for over a year.
The raid setup is 5 1TB drives on each system.
The noise sounds like the devices are recalibrating or doing some kind
of self diagnostics. I only hear this when the drives are idle.
When I hear the noise there is no drive activity(no led activity)
