Hi, last week I bought a new Dell Inspiron 6400 and smartmontools 5.37 under gentoo gives me very high values in offline uncorrectable and Currently unreadable sectors. Output of smartctl -a /dev/sda is appended. I than run extended offline-test wich reported no errors and also run Fujitsu ATA Diagnostic Tool 7.00 wich also reported no erros. Because all that I thought that this may is a problem with smartmontools and some vendor-defined bytes like discused in http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=461E2518.8080006%40gmx.de But because I can't find anything with google I think of asking this mailing list if there is anything kown or if there is anything I can do to verify these values before contacting support.
