Hi is this possible ? If so how am I able to get the disk information for these. I have a Asus p5wdg2-WS motherboard. It has 4 internal SATA ports on a Intel controller, 3 external ports on a Marvell controller, and 4 ports on a RocketRAID card. The drives on the marvell controller is just attached as normal disks. However I had to setup the drives as JBOD on the RocketRaid, i still cant get SMART information for either of these. Its a problem on most SMARt programs aswell. We really just need to be able to monitor temperature on all our drives. Let me know. |

I talked to representatives of several RAID controller vendors in the past. They all showed no interest to add SMART support for external tools to their Windows drivers. AFIAK, only 3ware has such support, but still undocumented. Christian: That's pretty amazing. I would have thought they'd welcome the = interest. Most if not all motherboards have the support for SMART -- it = makes the controllers inferior in that regard. -- Roy Zider |

RAID controller drivers usually don't support SMART I/O controls, regardless of configuration. http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/#FAQ-RAID > > ... Its a problem on most SMARt > > programs aswell. Without driver support, this is not possible. I talked to representatives of several RAID controller vendors in the past. And even they don't display SMART information. Its kinda odd really because its suppose to be a server motherboard, so how is it suppose to be setup to monitor drives etc ! I'll ask HPT about it if they have some kind of tool just to manage the drives attached to the card. |

As far as I understand the 3320 UserManual.pdf, it provides remote access to controller configuration via some TCP protocol. Some (apparently Windows-only) GUI program is used for this purpose. A command line tool is missing. Some other controllers use a web browser. It is e.g. easy to remotely access SMART attributes from a 3ware controller with a simple script using wget and smartctl. This is not easy with HPT due to the proprietary TCP protocol. > > ... > Well the Marvell is on the motherboard, it just expands 3 more drives > from the 4 internal ones on the Intel controller.
