Tony,
Make sure that your 3ware controllers are configured so that if they find
an unreadable sector, they immediately write back to that sector (using
data from the redundant disks) to force the unreadable sector to
reallocate.
I don't remember where that particular configuration switch lives, but
others on this list can probably remind us.
