Hi, I've got a little problem with smartctl : i've got a 80 Go IDE Hitachi hard drive . I'd like to follow it under RRDTOOL with the temperature. I need the smartctl informations. When i conect it with the external USB conection : /dev/sda #smartctl -a /dev/sda Device: HTS54808 0M9AT00 Version: Device type: disk Local Time is: Thu Mar 24 12:28:27 2005 CET Device does not support SMART But when the Hard drive is pluged INTO the computer : /dev/hdc the smartctl works fine. The problem is i can't leave the hard drive in the pc because i need the cdrom ... How can i use smartctl command with the IDE hard drive plugged on the external usb connection ? I already checked the -t ata but nothing works ... :( tks a lot for yur answers ... best regards |

Unfortunately the USB connection won't pass SMART data back and forth. Please see the Smartmontools FAQ at http://smartmontools.sf.net/ Cheers, Bruce On Thu, 24 Mar 2005, Andreas Unterkircher wrote: > and with > > smartctl -a -d scsi /dev/sda > > ? > > greetings, > Andreas > > Manu Linux Lookit (li...@lo...) schrieb: > > > > Hi, > > > > I've got a little problem with smartctl : > > > > i've got a 80 Go IDE Hitachi hard drive . > > > > I'd like to follow it under RRDTOOL with the temperature. > > > > I need the smartctl informations. > > > > When i conect it with the external USB conection : /dev/sda > > > > #smartctl -a /dev/sda > > Device: HTS54808 0M9AT00 Version: > > Device type: disk > > Local Time is: Thu Mar 24 12:28:27 2005 CET > > Device does not support SMART > > > > But when the Hard drive is pluged INTO the computer : /dev/hdc > > the smartctl works fine. > > > > The problem is i can't leave the hard drive in the pc because i need the > > cdrom ... > > > > How can i use smartctl command with the IDE hard drive plugged on the > > external usb connection ? > > > > I already checked the -t ata but nothing works ... :( > > > > tks a lot for yur answers ... > > > > best regards > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > > This SF.net email is sponsored by Microsoft Mobile & Embedded DevCon 2005 > > Attend MEDC 2005 May 9-12 in Vegas.
