I suggest you enable this: '-o on'. It may be that in spite of appearances, the disk doesn't support it -- but if it does you should enable it. > 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0012 100 100 016 Old_age Always - 5 > 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 61120 Is the disk 8 years old? Or is it 1000 hours old? Or 16 hours old? We can't tell from the smart self-test log (since there is none) if this is hours, minutes, or seconds. (If the disk is 8 years old, this is I think a new record for smartmontools-database.) Especially if the start-stop count is correct! Cheers, Bruce |

Since the Attribute is changing by about 88 counts/hour, it's very hard to understand what units it is in. It also looks as if the counter that they use for that Attribute has overflowed (firmware bug). So I'm not really sure what this Attribute is doing. Was the system powered up essentially continuously from April 13 to April 29? If not, that might help explain what Attribute 9 is. Cheers, Bruce |

I asked the user of this machine: this workstation is powered up on workdays for about 10hours and shut down during the night. so this computer probably has a power up/power down cycle of about 1200 (6years*200days). sorry for the confusion, here a diff that should be ok: 11c11 < Local Time is: Fri Apr 30 07:27:02 2004 CET --- > Local Time is: Fri Apr 30 08:52:29 2004 CET 42c42 < 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 032 Pre-fail Always - 25281 --- > 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 032 Pre-fail Always - 100871 47c47 < 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 020 Pre-fail Always - 664 --- > 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 020 Pre-fail Always - 2003 49c49 < 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 69742 --- > 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 74870 53c53 < 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 020 Pre-fail Always - 1382 --- > 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 020 Pre-fail Always - 32 regards manfred -- "Sie haben neue Mails!" - Die GMX Toolbar informiert Sie beim Surfen! Phil (and Manfred) > < Local Time is: Fri Apr 30 07:27:02 2004 CET > > Local Time is: Fri Apr 30 08:52:29 2004 CET > < 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 020 Old_age Always > - 69742 > > 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0012 100 100 020 Old_age Always > - 74870 This settles it conclusively. The Attribute changed by 5128 and hence it's in seconds: this is 85 minutes. Manfred, until this drive makes it into the database you need -v 9,seconds as an option to smartctl and/or Directive to smartd. Unfortunately there is an obvious bug in the Fujitsu firmware on this disk: the seconds counter is obviously wrapping back to zero after it gets to some large value. Cheers, Bruce |
