Hello, I have a seagate Barracuda 3TB hard disk. smartctl -a /dev/sda show very large values for some attributes. For example Raw_Read_Error_Rate's RAW_VALUE=103138536 ! It is a new harddisk. I was using an old version of smartmontools (5.38) that was shipped with Ubuntu 10.04. So, I compiled smartctl from svn repo (r3645). "DO > NOT USE THIS COMMAND." This probably translates to "Do not blame hdparm if the update bricks your disk" :-) The ATA command DOWNLOAD MICROCODE is somewhat complex. The HDD's implementation of this command might differ from ATA standard. Other problems in kernel or driver might let the command fail. So it is possibly a good idea to use the update tool provided by the disk vendor. >>> ... >>> >>> 241 Total_LBAs_Written 0x0000 100 253 000 Old_age Offline >>> - 75831532970 >>> 242 Total_LBAs_Read 0x0000 100 253 000 Old_age Offline >>> - 1370263037066 >> >> RAW values suggest that the attribute names of 241 and 242 are wrong. > How/why do you say that ? 1370263037066 LBAs (~638 TiB) read in 51 hours would mean an average of 3.5GiB/s. Total_Bytes_Read may be correct (7.1MiB/s) or this attribute means something different. Thanks, Christian |
