Hi list, I wonder if I can somehow define a certain amount of uncorrectable sectors as 'ok' and only get notified (upon boot) if this number has increased. Currently I get a daily mail about one offline uncorrectable sector and I tend not to read them anymore ... but I want to get notified when the next sector dies. Is that possible somehow? Thanks a lot, Thomas |

Better solution is probably to rewrite that sector so that the disk drive remaps it (if it is permanently broken). |

Hi Bruno, > Better solution is probably to rewrite that sector so that the disk drive > remaps it (if it is permanently broken). well, but some discs, like e.g. my SAMSUNG, won't set this value back to zero, when you overwrite the failed sectors. That's why you might end up with something like this: --- 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 099 099 000 Old_age Always - 4 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0030 099 099 000 Old_age Offline - 4 --- They got reallocated, but are still registered as uncorrectable... Annoying, isn't it?! Perhaps that's what happens in Thomas' case as well. Marko |

Jap, exactly that's the case - and what was discussed in the other mail thread 'Offline uncorrectable sectors - Western Digital - clearing status'. There Bruce (actually, you that I'm answering to :) made the proposition to use -U 0 or -C 0 in smartd.conf to turn off the warnings. But I'd like to HAVE the warnings when there arise more offline uncorrectable sectors rather than disabling the warning functionality. Does someone know a possibility to handle that? Or does someone know that this is definitely _not_ possible? Thanks, Thomas |
