My apologies for this being potentially off topic...My question relates to things that people on this list may have experienced with disk drive work, though not necessarily SMART. I've encountered manufacturer provided utilities that can fix bad sectors and diagnose errors that SMART/smartmontools does not see (i.e. "excessive shock" by IBM's Drive Fitness Test). Has anybody come upon GPL or similar utilities that would achieve some of the same results, such as forcing a write of a given bad sector so that it is good again, requesting that the drive remap a sector to a spare sector, or examine other behavior of a drive that SMART doesn't allow for? Any and all help is much appreciated, Thank you, -Michael Bendzick Systems and Software Engineering Intern Logic Product Development mic...@lo... www.logicpd.com This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and is protected by law.
