Hi! Thanks for responding so quick. > The relevant thing is if your disk supports self-tests. Hm, it seems that it doesn't support self tests, smartctl -t short gives out: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- === START OF OFFLINE IMMEDIATE AND SELF-TEST SECTION === Warning: device does not support Self-Test functions. Sending command: "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode". Drive command "Execute SMART Short self-test routine immediately in off-line mode" successful. Testing has begun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was a bit confused because it says "successful" and "Testing has begun". So in fact there is no test after this? When I call smartctl -a for my SCSI-disk I get ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Device: IBM DDRS-34560 Version: S97B Serial number: RDHF2516 Device type: disk Local Time is: Fri Jul 25 12:10:03 2003 CEST Device supports SMART and is Enabled Temperature Warning Disabled or Not Supported SMART Health Status: OK Error counter log: Errors Corrected Total Total Correction Gigabytes Total delay: [rereads/ errors algorithm processed uncorrected minor | major rewrites] corrected invocations [10^9 bytes] errors read: 0 0 0 0 0 4.295 0 write: 0 0 0 0 0 4.295 0 verify: 0 0 0 0 0 4.295 0 Non-medium error count: 0 Device does not support Self Test logging ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can I get any use of smartmontools together with this disk? I notice that "Gigabytes processed" is always at 4.295... So I can't get any power-on hours or so? Thanks a lot, Robert |
