Thanks Rich, but this is an mpt2sas device, not a megaraid device. Even if I modprobe megaraid, i get [root@*** #]$ smartctl -d megaraid,0 /dev/sg1 smartctl 5.41 2011-06-09 r3365 [x86_64-linux-2.6.18-238.1.1.el5] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net Smartctl open device: /dev/sg1 [megaraid_disk_00] failed: INQUIRY failed Cheers, Sergio On 14 Jan 2012, at 15:41, Rich wrote: > smartctl -d megaraid,... might make your life happier. > > - Rich > > On Sat, Jan 14, 2012 at 7:27 AM, Sergio Ballestrero > <ser...@gm...> wrote: >> Hello, >> I'm trying to get SMART info from disks sitting behind a Dell PERC H200 controller (on a Dell R610), running smartmontools 5.41 on Scientific Linux 5.7 , but smartctl seems unable to access any info - see below. >> Maybe (hopefully) I'm just missing something trivial? >> >> Cheers, >> Sergio >> >> [root@*** ~]# smartctl -i -d sat -T permissive -s on /dev/sg2 >> smartctl 5.41 2011-06-09 r3365 [x86_64-linux-2.6.18-274.12.1.el5] (local build) >> Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net >> >> Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed: Operation not permitted >> >> === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === >> Device Model: [No Information Found] >> Serial Number: [No Information Found] >> Firmware Version: [No Information Found] >> Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] >> ATA Version is: [No Information Found] >> ATA Standard is: [No Information Found] >> Local Time is: Sat Jan 14 10:11:06 2012 CET >> SMART support is: Ambiguous - ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE words 82-83 don't show if SMART supported. >> SMART support is: Ambiguous - ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE words 85-87 don't show if SMART is enabled. >> A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting.
