[smartmontools-support] Error SMART Thresholds Read failed: Input/output error

I have a brand new WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 Caviar Green, the first thing I
did was to plug it in and run smartctl -a and start running some
tests. I noticed that while this disk is in the S.M.A.R.T. database,
this odd message occured:

SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
SMART support is: Enabled

Error SMART Thresholds Read failed: Input/output error
Smartctl: SMART Read Thresholds failed.

What is the cause of this, and how can I fix it?
