Hi Bruce. I've recently run across this 190 attribute problem as well.
we use smartctl -H a lot and currently the 190 attribute causes -H to
return 32 exit value.
WD says 190 is for their internal use only. end user should not use it.
they are not interested in changing it at all. is there a way to
instrument knowndrives to ignore this attribute for KS and YD drives?
(i haven't checked YS yet).
