Just a side question, where are the smart attributes stored, its my understanding that Fujitsu drives stor all the smart data on the drive and not on any Flash on the controller board.

smartd writes the disk temperature to syslog. Hm, at least when it
changes. Using smartctl to get the values shouldn't interfere with
normal disk operation as it's not doing anything with the disk platter.
