How do I get to know the severity of problems with the drive based on the bogus message and SMART status registers?

I agree registers look ok and internal registers too.

This is typically a result of a SATA controller driver unable to return ATA output registers.

(BTW: Please always include the first smartctl output line because it reports version and platform)

In this case, the above message from smartctl is bogus.
Should no longer appear with newer smartctl releases.
