Hi,
I've just buy a new hard drive, model HDS721010KLA330 (Hitachi) 1TB. What worries me is this attribute:

New? Hmm ...

This disk is from Deskstar 7K1000 series, released ~2007.

Anyone know whats going on?

Run a short self-test (smartctl -t short ...) and wait a few minutes for completion. Compare the Power_On_Hours raw value with the LifeTime(hours) value from the self-test log.

If both match, the power on time is probably correct (4 years + 10 month).

Thanks,
