smartctl is showing a read failure, and  Reallocated_Sector_Ct RAW_VALUE=830 and Current_Pending_Sector RAW_VALUE=830 (those just jumped from 534 after I ran the tests)

Can someone help me understand this?   Real disk problem?

Thanks

So, I thought I would try to follow the Bad block HOWTO instructions

desktop: fdisk -lu /dev/sda8

Disk /dev/sda8: 17.4 GB, 17449173504 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2121 cylinders, total 34080417 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Disk /dev/sda8 doesn't contain a valid partition table

Block count:              4259840
Block size:               4096

Since I didn't have a starting sector like the example, I just took b = 57649010*512/4096 = 7206125
