as I would like to have a POS inside idempiere and smartpos is created in this way ..unfortunately it works only on idempiere 2.1
Do you have any road map to release SmartPos for idempiere 3.1 ?
Thank you in advance

Hi Marco... we just released the first version of SmartPOS 3.1 for the first customer in Colombia, but it was really complex, because there are many impacts coming from zk (new them, performance issues), and jetty .... so we are not ready for a public release yet ...
The next step would be for us to prepare a test environment, to play/test more with it, once we have it, i will let know you, so perhaps you can help us to test and document, and also get an early release, how that sounds ?
regards
Pedro R

Hello Cesar ... (excuse me of I answer in English, but that is better for everyone in this forum) ... it took a while to get the sponsoring & assign the resources for the SmartPOS migration to Idempiere 4.1, but we got it some weeks ago, and if everything goes well, we should release a pre-prelease for public testing in 2-3 weeks ..
This new release not just comes with the previoues Smart 2.1 functionality, also it will include a lot of new functioanlity from differernt customers such as: production (kits, production order, discounts, more reports, and a lot of QA fixes ... so stay tuned in twitter @smartjspnews and here and hopefully you can help us to test this coming release soon ...

Just to complement your question, the more simpler POS solutions intregrated with Idempiere have a common pattern using queues (activeMQ & so on), and sending XML back & forth, or in a more manual way sending , importing & exporting files as you mentioned , Those POS solutions usaully are clients (desktop) apps with limited data model capabilities (unique price lists .. nor much use of product discounts, manufactiring and limited stock manamente for asyncronous operations) .
Our SmartPOS 3.0/4.0 architecture supports both (Online-Web) and offline models (to have the client disconennected to the server), but with a more scalable model ... Online by default (running inside Idempiere as an OSGI plugin with a lot of customizations) ... and offline (adavanced implementations) Using a new plugin that we created and we are enhaceng some time ago, to replicate remote idempiere/smartpos (both ends are web apps /OSGi) using Cassandra databases (NOSQL) replication capabilites (more advanced and easier than queues) .. and JSON messages (ligther and faster than XML) .....this new plugin is called SmartReplicator and it will releases soon as well ... unfortunatey it has been really hard to find sponsors to upgrade these plugins to Idempiere 4.1 (with all the massive changes in zk, jdk8, newer jasper reports and so on). and some times our time is limited from our end specially to test & document ... but we should be close to release both SmartPOS 4.1 & Smart replicator soon .(2-3 weeks I hope)..
While that happen I would sugget you to see a more in deep analysis (comparison of SmartPOS operation models with other POS solutions, check our existent documentation here) .. file:///C:/Users/pedrorozo/Downloads/SmartPOS3-NewFeatures.pdf
Do not forget that SmartPOS 2.1 is the previous Client/server release (based in OpenbravoPOS, rabbitMQ and so on) and we do not have much interest in that version for new projects anymore, though we know some of the community guys are still using it. SmartPOS 3.0+/4.x and crrent & upcoming releases they are fully Online/web/OSGI ... we are actively looking sponsors for enhancements and new projects .. so your feedback and perhaps sposoring is welcome ..if you want more agile & custom results ... if not, no problem, hope to release soon, and we appreciate your patiente & controbutions in the near future..

Pedro

to run SmartPOS/Idempiere wiht JDK 8 you need the latest version .... we had significant delays due to heave work in other projects but we hop to release the new version absed in Idempiere 4.1 the next week ....
On the other hand, currently we do not have a disconnected version of SmartPOS (I mean SmartPOS include the idempiere version) because still wiht our best efforts, we tried to decouple of plugins ,c reating scripts. automatic packous and so on (to generate the changes in the Idempiere during the installation) but a lof of packout issues are still generated blocking us to provide a fully decouple version of our functionality that is big ......and so far stil spending a good amount of time we are not able to find the source of the errors in he idempiere side .. so our normal release will include as usual ..plugins & idempiere integrated .... (based on Idempiere 4 - JDK 8)

Joe I see You have a bit of confussion in your udnersatding about our archietecture, please download our latest versions that comes with videos about smaprtpos architecture, and you will see that cassandra is used for intergrations up-to v. 5.1 of smartreplicator (communication layer) we did not used as primary database, for that, as idempiere does, we used postgres or oracle.

Dear Pedro,
In fact, the challenge I have met is about idempiere performance. When I was testing my client ERP system. The response speed is very slow. After discussion with senior students and professor. We are trying to explore potential NoSQL database solutions. I want to help the non-profit organization to solve the problems or give some insights for them. The question I want to ask you is about your speculation of idempiere bad performance when do queries of Postgres. Should I suggest they consider using NoSQL database to store data.
By the way, I heard about the organization will send someone to participate the next idempiere conference. Are you planning to attend the next idempiere conference?

Again youa re a bit confused..(please read documents and available videos before create more questions) 1. there is no easy way to switch databases in Idempiere (just postgres & oracle and they are relational databases) .... Cassandra can not be used for that .... on the other hand... your eprformance issues seems related with bad configuration ..or limtied hardware and so on . so please use the idempiere forums to get feedback, and create smart questions for that (very weel documented context... step by steps... versions and so on) I hope you udnerstadn here we are focussed on smartpos ....
