change record ownership

I have noticed a problem when using the dataman
administrator menu to change the ownership of a given
record to the actual current owner (happens when I don't
know who the current owner is). A message is displayed
to tell me that is the current owner which is fine.
However, when that user tries to access the record to
make changes, they get an error that they are not the
owner of the record. If I then change the record
ownership to someone else and then back to the original
owner, the owner can again access the record.
