For the Volume/Display tab. Occasionally it appears as
if my data has a very large dynamic range, such as
-32000..+32000.
Whether this is actually the case, I could not tell.
But the meaningful data has a much narrower dynamic
range, for example 12 bits, or
-1500..+4000. I would not expect slicer to detect the
meaningful range automatically. However, when I set the
low and high threshold
manually, the active range appears as a very narrow
band on the LUT-display window. Then, when I set the
window/level, I can see
a gradient over this narrow band, but I hardly see any
details.
You could try to find some other way of displaying the
LUT which gives more information. For example, a line
that represents the
range between the thresholds, and then an expanded view
of the LUT between them:
low-thresh-> <-high-thresh
-------------------[===============]----------------
. .
.-------------- -----------.
. .
+--------------------------------------------------+

| black gray white |

+--------------------------------------------------+
(sorry, this was created with a monospace text and
pasted here, but I hope you get the idea).
Then, another thing that can be done automatically is,
to set the window/level value to fit the actual
low-high range. This can be done
every time they are changed, or using a button that
automatically adjusts window/level when clicked.
