Your points are well taken.  You want to do the right thing and keep the 
temple pure.  Good for you.

Excellent!  Glad to hear that the IO Subsys will be included, and that 
you're looking at UTF8.  Is there a roadmap/strawman available for v2?

I noticed that, on your projects page, you specify a "non-HTML" GUI...Is 
Autopsy slow?  It seems that a well-designed web page (PHP) presenting data 
from a well-designed database would be the ideal solution.  Apache, MySQL, 
and PHP seem to run on just about everything these days...This approach 
would make logging and metrics much cleaner, too.

If only I had some spare time...
