[sleuthkit-users] File Recovery - Unknown File Type

I need to recover the memoirs of a 90-year old friend. She has two files
with NO file extension that were created on a Win7 laptop. Not sure of the
creating app, but suspect Word. She has an expired trial version on the
laptop.

 

I tried renaming the file as '.doc', docx, rtf, txt, wps, wpd, odt and
opening in Word 2010, wordpad, notepad, Wordperfect, Open Office Writer. No
go. All apps show gibberish and possibly a header section of some sort.
Perhaps an embedded EOF.

 

Was hoping that the Autopsy file recovery option would extract the data, but
it found no data. Th

 

What I need is a 'raw-data' copy tool for Windows to extract the ACSII data
as-is.

Any suggestions?
