Sleeper OS FAQ

Welcome to the Sleeper OS FAQ! This page contains answers to common questions about Sleeper OS, a Linux distribution based on Rocky Linux.

Why Rocky Linux?

Sleeper OS is based on Rocky Linux because it provides a solid foundation for a stable and reliable Linux distribution. Rocky Linux is designed to be a community-driven and enterprise-grade operating system, which aligns well with the goals of Sleeper OS. By using Rocky Linux as our base, we can benefit from its security updates, bug fixes, and compatibility with CentOS.

What is "Bloatware"?

"Bloatware" refers to unnecessary or redundant software applications that come pre-installed with an operating system. These applications often take up valuable disk space, memory, and processing power, potentially slowing down the system. One of the key advantages of Sleeper OS is that it is significantly reduced in bloatware. We focus on providing a streamlined and efficient user experience by excluding unnecessary software.

Why is Sleeper OS only available in VMDK format?

Currently, Sleeper OS is only available in VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk) format due to technical constraints. We have not yet found a suitable software solution to generate the ISO format. While we understand the importance of offering different formats for installation, we are actively working on finding a solution to provide an ISO version in the future.

How can I contribute to Sleeper OS?

We welcome contributions from the community to help improve Sleeper OS. You can contribute in various ways, such as:

  • Software Development: Contribute code, bug fixes, or new features to the Sleeper OS project.
  • Documentation: Help improve the project's documentation, including guides, tutorials, and FAQs.
  • Testing: Participate in testing new releases and providing feedback on issues or improvements.
  • Translation: Contribute by translating the user interface or documentation into different languages.
  • Community Support: Assist other users in the community by answering questions and sharing your expertise.

Is Sleeper OS suitable for production environments?

Sleeper OS is designed with stability and reliability in mind, making it suitable for various use cases, including production environments. However, it's important to thoroughly test Sleeper OS in your specific environment before deploying it in production. As with any operating system, it's recommended to keep up with security updates and best practices to ensure the safety and performance of your systems.
